Capitalist Architecture - Capitalist Architecture

CAPITALIST ARCHITECTURE

01 December 2014, Cervera de los Montes

Google search engine gives to "socialist architecture" seven million references but less than one million links to "capitalist architecture". Does it mean that socialist architecture has been over seven times more interesting than capitalist architecture although the latter is occupying our urban landscapes? If capitalisms is the best of all possible worlds, why is it not producing enduring design?

In the capitalist architecture the form follows the function - no beauty, no harmony, no comfort, absolutely nothing if it doesn't generate profit. You shouldn't judge the architecture of a society by its monuments but observing the environment where people spend the most of their time - in our world obviously shopping malls and other retail installations.

Freedom For America - Troops Of Obama's Regime In Ferguson

FREEDOM FOR AMERICA

26 November 2014, Cervera de los Montes

I demand a no-fly zone and an international embargo against the United States of America for the civil war sparked in Ferguson. The regime's troops are killing their own people.

The international community must provide weapons and training to the opposition freedom fighters. We should make clear to president Obama that it is the time to step down - his regime has lost all legitimacy. We must help the opposition to form a transitional government that will include all sided except those that have blood in their hands. The current leaders have no place in the democratic future of America.

Work On Paper Tiger - Drawing

WORK ON PAPER TIGER

24 November 2014, Cervera de los Montes

My studio plan for this fall was to work without any haste with my series of monochrome series 50 Shades of Black but then Galerie Forsblom, my new representative in Helsinki, programmed my first solo show with them for February. I'm really happy with the exhibition but the deadline made me anxious. The gallery asked me to produce new paintings but I estimated the time frame impossible for suffering with canvases. My solution is drawing, my signature medium but now in a canvas size. I got two 10x1,5m rolls of Fabriano watercolor paper. For some reason I feel more relaxed with paper and working is more fluent. Maybe it's logical for a paper tiger political artist like me. All bark and no bite.

Global Palace Of Tears - The Melilla Wall

GLOBAL PALACE OF TEARS

17 November 2014, Cervera de los Montes

Last week I painted a mural version of my 57 Varieties on the wall of the Finnish Cultural Institute in Berlin. Once again I found myself in the uncomfortable situation of promoting the country that has issued my travel document.

The Institute is located next to Friedrichstrasse railway station and I had time to visit Tränenpalast, Palace of Tears, adjunct to the station and used during the German Democratic Republic for border control procedures. The colloquial name refers to the goodbyes said by the East Germans to the West Germans returning to the West. The traveling of the East Germans was limited by the authorities because many citizens dreamed of the capitalist paradise of TV sets and Volkswagen cars and wanted to emigrate to the West.

Now the pavilion houses a propaganda exhibition about the horrors of socialism and the victory of capitalism. A week ago the leaders of the capitalist world celebrated the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the German Democratic Republic.

The hypocritical capitalist powers condemn the emigration restrictions but at the same time employ harsh anti-immigration laws and build walls between the West and the South. What do you do with your freedom to exit your country if the country where you want to travel denies the entrance? The purpose of the Berlin Wall and the blade forced separation barriers between Morocco and European Union in Ceuta and Melilla are precisely the same - to prevent people moving from poor countries to rich countries.

Those who don't have a premium passport - like mine issued by the European Union - live in a global palace of tears.

Surreal Artist's Life - Rs Berlin

SURREAL ARTIST'S LIFE

11 November 2014, Madrid

Artist's life in the European late capitalism can be absurd - or should I say surrealistic. Yesterday I complained about not having access to the public health care and today I'm wining and lunching in the Salvador Dalí VIP Lounge at the Madrid Airport on my way to Berlin to paint a mural for a grpup show curated by Eemil at the Finnish Institute.

The wines I'm tasting:
Marqués de Murrieta Reserva 2009, Rioja
Cillar de Cilos 20 Aniversario 2013, Ribera del Duero
Tebaida Edición Especial 2011, Bierzo

I can't have a medical prescription but these delicacies make me feel rather good.
