PAINT IT BLACK
14 September 2014, Cervera de los Montes
I see a red door and I want it painted black No colors anymore, I want them to turn black The Rolling Stones: Paint it Black Last year I painted a series of red monochromes, called 57 Varieties after the famous Heinz ketchup slogan. Now I don't need more pop references, it's time to go deep down to the core of the high modernism, dig the graves and legacy of alpha hero painters like Kazemir Malevich and Ad Reinhardt. On Friday, I received two pallets of materials for my 50 shades of black. I'm going to paint darkness, coal, ebony, outer space, black sea, black market, black pudding, black sabbath, black Madonna, black cat, magic, death, evil, truffle, Black Panthers, Black Forest, blackberry, Indian ink, black sheep, Africa, Anarchism, Fascism, black beret, little black dress, business suit, Jihadism, goth, black hole, black mamba, black widow, mourning, Black September, blacklist, blackmailing, coffee, limousine, black belt, black sunglasses and black humor. I want to see it painted, painted, painted black, yeah.
WHAT CAN I GET FOR 10 EURO
06 September 2014, Cervera de los Montes
Yeah, what can I get for 10 dollar? Anything you want. M.I.A. Spain's neoliberal former prime minister José María Aznar claimed before the crises that Spain was the eighth biggest economic power of the world. Now the myth tells that in the pre-2008 Spain everybody drove a Mercedes and lived in a luxury villa financed by bubble banks. That's of course bullshit, the working class never had decent wages or exotic vacations. the unemployment was always higher than in any other Western European country. Anyways, the general feeling was that Spain was almost reaching European standards of living. After six years of crashed economy and the current neoliberal prime minister Mariano Rajoy saying every now and then that the crises is over, the Spanish working class lives in misery. They do whatever to earn 10 euros, the price of a modest lunch in a bar.Today I got my car cleaned. A hand wash and thorough vacuum cleaning that took one hour and half cost me 10 euros. A basic price of a blow job in Spain is now 10 euros, too. What can I get for 10 dollar? Anything you want.
FOOD CAMP ART
01 September 2014, Cervera de los Montes
Last weekend I went once again to see my MuNA - Museum of No Art. The exhibition is running one more week at Serlachius Museums in Mänttä, Finland. I gave a guided tour in my dystopic museum but the main reason for the visit was Food Camp Finland, an international gathering of chefs and other food professionals. I participated in a round table about food and art. Food is not art until fine diners are not served also unpleasant tastes. An art work can make you cry or vomit and you still think that it is worth of experiencing. Until now fine dine has always tried to please our senses. This was the case this time too, we had an amazing nine course dinner, each dish prepared by a different star chef. I enjoyed it - but I still want something more from food. The day they serve me in a top restaurant rodenticide, I'll consider cookery a real art form.
BARCELONA POTATO
23 August 2014, Cervera de los Montes
I told my daughter that I'm planning a painting of Piglet and Winnie the Pooh. Don't you like them? she asked upset referring to my statement that I paint things I don't like. Piglet is cute but in my painting he will represent Animal Farm's pigs. Sometimes I use in my work things I like as subterfuges. I like potato chips. My wife buys a huge red and yellow bag of them always when we go to our summer place in Finland. This year I asked her why. She said that my late grandfather had them always. My grandmother told that he had tasted the exotic potatoes in Barcelona in the 50's when he was showcasing there a tractor, he worked as a technician at Valmet. Now my Spanish wife is addicted to the Finnish potato crisps. When I was back home from vacation I had to draw them. I will exhibit the drawing in my show in Barcelona in October. The show will be dedicated to my grandfather.
