i Rabies (English, pathology) = A viral disease that causes acute encephalitis in warm-blooded animals and people, characterized by abnormal behavior such as excitement, aggressiveness, and dementia, followed by paralysis and death.

Rabies (Latin) = Rage, madness.

Kalab, kalib (Arabic) = dog, rabies.

Dogs are rarely kept as pets in Arab culture, including Christian Arabs. The majority of Muslim jurists consider dogs to be ritually unclean and some Muslims point to hadith that state that dogs should be killed.
