The figure is a garden gnome, a small humanoid creature, usually wearing a pointy hat, produced for the purpose of ornamentation and protection from evil sorcery. These figurines originate in 19th century Germany. The gnome wears a dunce hat and a sign in the style of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, a socio-political movement in the People's Republic of China between 1966 and 1976. During the events the red guards humiliated the bourgeoisie and dissidents.
