i The figure is a garden gnome, a small humanoid creature, usually wearing a pointy hat, produced for the purpose of ornamentation and protection from evil sorcery. These figurines originate in 19th century Germany. The hat and the sigh resemble the public humiliations of the Chinese Cultural Revolution.
