Field marshal is the highest military rank in an army.

Dog of war can refer to a mercenary. The expression is also famous for a phrase from William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war. Here dog has its ordinary meaning, havoc is a military order permitting the seizure of spoil after a victory and let slip is to release from the leash.

Asymmetric warfare is war between belligerents whose relative military power differs significantly, or whose strategy or tactics differ significantly. The term is frequently used to describe what is also called guerrilla warfare, insurgency, terrorism, counterinsurgency, and counterterrorism, essentially violent conflict between a formal military and an informal, poorly-equipped, but resilient opponent. |
