HOME

12 February 2007, Cervera de los Montes

I've been one week at home after two months in Tokyo. I think I'm never going to travel anywhere again. After the biggest megapolis in the world, I love living in the countryside. It's luxury that not many people can afford. My daughter has learnt to speak while I was away - but only in a foreign language. At least she doesn't look like a Spaniard. Yesterday, I put her in the backbag and we picked the first wild asparagus of the year. But maybe the best thing last week was Spain's gloroius victory over England at Old Trafford. Now I'm doing animal drawings for the Zoo exhibition at Anhava in Helsinki in May.

Sayonara - Gotanda

SAYONARA

04 February 2007, Tokyo

I'm going home tomorrow morning. I've got 41 new drawings and 7 new friends. Sometimes I loved and sometimes I hated this Maximum Mega Sparking Battle Parlor Megapolis. If I didn't like it, it wasn't Tokyo's fault but my own fault.

Now I pack my Rimowa suitcase, have a blue bath and go to sleep. I think I'll be back here one day.

Macdonald's Biennial In Second Life - Second Life

MACDONALD'S BIENNIAL IN SECOND LIFE

02 February 2007, Tokyo

I spent all day with AIT's Roger McDonald at Showcase in Yokohama. It's some kind of amateur style art fair but still a great opportunity for me to do some more networking before going back home Monday. We show, until Sunday, in AIT's booth ten of my Japanese drawings and some "Cosplay Geisha A+0" and "Sakura Blossom All Services" prostitution ads from London and Madrid.

Roger wants to organize a biennial in Second Life - the virtual world on internet. I love this idea though I don't now what I would show there. Should it be considered doing something in the art context (it's a biennial) or outside of it? Maybe something absurd, that doesn't look like art but neither can be anything else, like a bar that sells five-liter Long Island ice teas in Louis Vuitton hand bags. If he really does it and invites me, I try to come up with a good idea.

After the day with Mr. McDonald I got for dinner a MegaMac Value Meal with Chicken McNuggets and BBQ sauce.

Realistic Painting - Milan

REALISTIC PAINTING

31 January 2007, Tokyo

I had a presentation of my Japanese drawings on Monday at AIT. After my talk, Mari said, that the drawings look too much like the reality. That is possible.

When I went first time to America, for Everything I Don't Understand Must Be Sin solo show in New York, I was afraid of the same thing. In Europe, my work is absurd, exaggerating and provocative but in commercial kitsch overdose countries, like Japan and the United States, it is realistic.

It would be good to exhibit these works also in Japan but first it's going to Helsinki, Timo invited me to show it at Korjaamo in August. Timo is a Japan geek but most of the people will see the drawings as superficial exotic otherness.

Soft-boiled Artist In Pain - Kamen Rider Black Rx

SOFT-BOILED ARTIST IN PAIN

27 January 2007, Tokyo

No drawing this week - I've had an awful neck pain - but many openings and heavy networking. On Friday, the opening of All about Laughter at Mori Museum was fun. The exhibition was a bit too much hypermarket style but I laughed five times, so I suppose it means the show worked. Champagne tasted delicious on 52nd floor of the Roppongi Hills and I knew many people and I was introducing them to each other. Awesome.

On Wednesday, I had a meeting with Mori's Fumio Nanjo. I don't know if he liked my work. Yuko says that I shouldn't expect immediate success of our meetings. She's right. After all, I'm very sensitive to show my work. Today we had a meeting with the gallerist Misako Rosen, who has a beautiful space, and she didn't even look the work, just scanned 50 drawings in three minutes. I almost cried. I'd like to be as hard-boiled as Masked Rider.
