When the Islamists hit New York, London or Madrid, the acts of violence are called terrorist attacks without quotes. This is a perfect example of orientalism showing that from the Western point of view Middle Eastern people, Arabs and Syrians are just so-called "human beings". The orientalism describes the pervasive Western tradition, both academic and artistic, of prejudiced outsider interpretations of the East, shaped by the attitudes of European imperalism. Arabs in the Western popular culture are portrayed as bombers, billionaires or belly dancers. This is called the three B syndrome. The Arab men are depicted as terrorist or as wealthy oilmen and Arab women are portrayed as sex objects waiting to be freed by Western alpha males.

GREAT MEATBALLS OF FRIENDLY FIRE

I love meatballs. When I'm a successful and filthy rich artist, I'll open a restaurant serving exclusively at least 100 varieties of meatballs from every corner of the world. In 2003 I drew Meatballs with Chocolate - now it's in the permanent collection of MoMA, New York. Today I'm drawing a Hummer truck equipped with a meatball launcher. It's ammo includes (this is also a sketch for the menu of my future restaurante):

PAINTING IS NOT A BED OF ROSES

Didn't Fidel Castro say something like painting is not a bed of roses - it's a struggle between the future and past? It would be easy to make things I master - drawings, more conceptual object works and slide shows, my latest mannerism - but I'm once again back in painting, which is both tortuous and torturous to me. I have neither patience nor talent for it. Actually I hate painting though I can't avoid it. As artist I'm free to do whatever I want and I choose time after time to use the most difficult technique loaded with the total weight of the art history. I'm mesmerized by the power of painting. What worries me, is that no-one else seems to understand the results of my struggle. Last year Korjaamo Galleria exhibited in Helsinki the paintings I did with Judas in Beijing in 2009 but onnly one of the small works was sold. After 2009 I've done 16 new paintings (and now I'm finishing two more) and none of them has been neither exhibited or placed in a collection. Should I get the message and accept that I'm not interesting as a painter - that's what a critic wrote about my first painting show in 2003 - or keep on fighting?
MUNA - MUSEUM OF NO ART

For a long time, I've been strict with the dogma that art should not be about art, artists or the art world and I've been bitterly critical with my friends doing works about the mechanics and problematics of the art world. Yesterday, a museum director (I can't tell yet neither the name nor the location of the institution), asked me to do a project with the theme of "the museum institution as a specimen of capitalist deprivation by means of exploitation of artist’s work”. I said it's not my cup of tea and then we began to brainstorm enthusiastically. The good thing in being an artist is that you don't have to respect your own principles. Actually, that's the greatest power tool of an artist.
The museum inaugurates a new building in 2014 and one of the opening shows is MuNA - Museum of No Art that will be built inside the museum. Muna is the Finnish word for egg, male genitals (vulgar), and to have guts. The first step of our project is to launch an international architectural design competition for a shanty museum to contrast the starchitecture of the hosting museum.
